Thank you to our partners at the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs for hosting the event today featuring the launch of Peace Boat's publication “Navigating Disarmament Education: The Peace Boat Model", co-authored by Sumiko Hatakeyama and Akira Kawasaki. This publication introduces Peace Boat’s methodology for disarmament education, which directly stems from lessons learned through implementation of various disarmament education programs. It also discusses how disarmament education should be implemented in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) and how digital technologies can be leveraged to provide a fruitful experience for participants. Special thanks also to our guest speakers, Dr Kathleen Sullivan and Randy Rydell, and to the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Ms Nakamitsu, for your opening to today's publication launch and the foreword in our new publication! "If we partner & learn from one another...we will overcome challenges & continue our journey towards a more peaceful, secure & sustainable world." - Izumi Nakamitsu United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs

A special preview of some of the films showing at our Climate Cinema all day on September 30! Join our Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassadors in their journeys onboard Peace Boat to share their messages of the impacts of the climate crisis on their small island state communities, and the youth-led actions for change, to audiences of civil society, government representatives and the United Nations in these award winning films! Against the Tide : A Journey for Climate Hope Directed by Luis Barreto and Produced by Karen Hallows and Chema Sarri The film portrays the experience of the youth ambassadors, and raises awareness about the fragility and vulnerability of the small island states. Screened for the first time at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany. “The experience of producing this short film was very inspiring for all of us involved in the project. The ambassadors not only brought their enthusiasm and optimism to the project, they also shared solutions and inspired others to take simple actions at the individual level in order to make a difference,” says director Barreto.
